Club News and Announcements Winter is coming. The wet weather means wet shoes and boots. Please place your outdoor shoes on the shoe rack and boots on the boot trays to keep our floors dry and clean. Open Play for all ages is on Sundays, 10 am to 4 pm and 7 - 10 pm. Junior Doubles Ladder is Tuesday evenings 7:00 - 9:30 pm with sign in by 7:15 pm. Adult Doubles Ladder is Thursday evenings. You must arrive by 7:30 to sign in. Junior Open Play is normally on Wednesdays 5:00 - 7:00 pm as long as we have volunteers to open the club and supervise. Unfortunately we have no volunteers for December and early January so the next Wednesday Junior Open Play is January 18,2012. All junior members are welcome to come out to get extra playing time. Junior lessons are on Saturdays until December 17, with all classes currently full. Registration for the winter term lessons begins December 10. Next term lessons run January to April and are free for members. Beginning in September 2012, there will be a separate fee charged for lessons. All lessons are 80 minutes long, beginning at 9:00 am, 10:30 am, 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm.
Special thanks to member Tony Purkis for building a second coffee table for the club. It is as beautiful as the first! Thank you to the volunteers who helped run the Junior Tournament November 26 and 27. Several members cleaned the floors on Friday evenings, a few came in early Saturday or Sunday to process registrations, others served food at the snack bar or ran the draw desk all day Saturday and Sunday, and some popped in to help out wherever needed. A few even stayed late on Sunday to clean up. Thanks to all of you for making the tournament a success! Please use the coat racks in the main lounge to hang up coats and keep couches clear for sitting on. Check out our YouTube Channel where we'll be posting videos of tournaments or players from our team who compete at tournaments. We may also post up other information coaching sessions. http://www.youtube.com/user/kwbadmintonclub

Call the club if you are able to help us expand our thriving Junior Program. Prime Time Play means "adult open play" with the following rules to clarify who is allowed to play during these times and what type of events can be played. The general rules for Prime Time Play are as follows: No Singles Games are allowed unless there is no one waiting for a court. No Private Lessons are to be given. No Juniors are allowed to play unless they are approved by the head junior coach (Andrew Ma). - There is a list of pre-approved juniors who can play. Any non-approved juniors who play during Prime Time must vacate the court if there are Adults waiting for the court. Open Play All Ages - Families are encouraged to come and play during this time along with Juniors and Adults. There is no priority given for the courts - everyone shares the courts using the sign-up board.

Guests are welcome at any time during these supervised hours. The fee for playing as a guest is: Adults $12 Students $9 Court Time Rotation Our court rotation system allows everyone 25 minutes on court at a time. When no one is waiting you may play as long as you like, but when we are busier, please adhere to the 25 minute time limit. Record the time when you go on court and your name; that way others know when you are expected off, so they can sign up for the next available court accordingly. Erase your time when you come off court. Please remember, you must scan in immediately every time you come in the door, no matter the time of day. We require the scanning for several reasons including tracking court usage. . Please remember to always leave your outdoor shoes on the new shelf at the front door and carry in your clean indoor-only court shoes. The Board of Directors meets at 5:30 pm. usually the first Monday of each month. If you have new ideas for the club, or just want to be more involved in your club, feel free to attend. The Board is always open to new members, so please consider volunteering your time to participate in decision making. And speaking of volunteering, there is lots to be done. We need help with supervising the Junior Open Play time, cleaning, maintenance, gardening/snow shovelling and running tournaments. Remember, a minimum 3 ½ hours of work over the year will give you full credit for the volunteer fee on renewal of your membership. Any extra work done continues to help keep the club running smoothly and expanding programs. It also makes the club a better place for all when more participate in its operation. See the Volunteer bulletin board for ideas on what you can do, or talk to Sheila at the front desk. There are lots more jobs that are waiting to be done than what is listed on the forms.
As always, new members are welcome any time of year! Our Special Introductory Membership Base Fee is only $149! Email us for more information! Please note: we accept cash or cheque only. |
